S.I.L.K Royal and Langnickel brushes

Recently I attended the P.H.A.M.E event out in Pasadena, CA. PHAME standing for (professional hair and makeup expo) and it really did cater to your industry professional. As with every "professional makeup expo" I was very tentative in attending because I am not totally impressed with layout of the event. Such as IMATS. I went to one of the first IMAT's out in Pasadena and it is actually where I discovered and then attended my makeup school (Cinema Makeup School). But when I went back years later, it was very disappointing. As if the event was now catering to the public and less the professional. With lines stretching around the entire convention of girls with no interest in makeup other than to get a huge discount on their personal stash, I was turned off from the event. Not only did you have to elbow your way through people with shopping bags full of ANYTHING, but also the classes they were offering were geared more towards your average consumer.

That being said, PHAME was nothing like that. Maybe because it was its first year, but maybe because they really are catering to the professional.

Anyways, back to what it is I am here to discuss. I was listening to a seminar by the Emmy winning makeup artist Kevin James Bennett, and he was talking about kit essentials. What you need and what you do not need to have in your working makeup kit. He said something that I found very interesting, he said "There is no need to have any brand names in your kit, unless you love it and find it necessary. There are so many brands out there that are specifically designed for the working makeup artist. Theses brands are MADE by makeup artist. So instead of going out and by $68 dior foundation in every color, why don't you go stop by Temptu or Ben Nye and get some real professional makeup for less than half the price". I feel like it was the first time I was ever encouraged to NOT go buy from these brand names. And this is coming from an AWARD WINNING ARTIST. Say no more.....

So I went and shopped around the expo and came across this brand SILK by Royal and Langnickel. I must say I think they were at the IMAT's convention and I did end up purchasing some of their brushes because at these events they are sold at wholesale prices. So as I skimmed, once again, around this brand and what they had to offer I ended up purchasing two of their many brushes. When I got home I opened them up and just felt the hairs, they were very soft. They moved well across the skin and when I went to use them they applied makeup very precise and exactly how I needed them to. I cannot yet review longevity, but I have done some research on their brand and they stand behind their product saying they will last you for years.

If you want to visit their site go to:
beautyusa.royalbrushstore.com

If you just type in royalbrushstore it will take you to their site that also offers paint brushes for artists.

Overall I give these a 4 out of 5.

The only reason I went with a 4 is they could have been a tad fluffier.

Here are the two brushes I purchased.

Cheers!
